Summary: Annual Public Meeting 2011

On June 8, 2011, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) held its second Annual Public Meeting in Ottawa.

About 110 people participated in the event, about 65 in-person and more than 40 others via live webcast.

SCC Chairman Hugh Krentz welcomed attendees and gave an introduction to the organization, its role, mandate and an overview of the key relationships within Canada’s standardization system.

John Walter, SCC Executive Director, presented SCC’s strategic direction and vision for 2012 and beyond. He spoke about key accomplishments of the past year, and described the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Both Mr. Krentz and Mr. Walter took questions from the live audience and from Internet viewers. Topics of interest included committee funding, SCC’s direction, and the organization’s involvement in international standardization. About a dozen questions were received in advance for the meeting; all were answered.

The Annual Public Meeting provided stakeholders and interested Canadians with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of SCC operations.
