Inspired by the theme of World Standards Day 2005 "Standards for a safer world", the September issue of ISO Focus brings together a portfolio of articles that highlight the extensive array of ISO work related to safety. Included is a submission by Canadian Elizabeth Nielsen, an active SCC advisory council member who is also convenor of ISO COPOLCO's Working Group on Product Safety. Her article, "Consumers depend on safety standards", looks at the the important role that standardization plays in protecting the health and safety of consumers.
