![]() SCC sponsors participation of developing countries in ISO Networking Conference2003-04-03In its continued commitment to engage emerging economies in international standardization activities, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce that it is sponsoring the participation of four developing countries in the ISO Networking Conference, to be held in Ottawa, Canada, May 14-16, 2003. SCC sponsored representatives from Bolivia, Costa Rica, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, will be joining other participants from ISO member bodies and various standards related organizations. Hosted by the Standards Council of Canada, the conference brings together the "non-technical" professionals of the international standards community to work towards common goals, exchange ideas and collaborate with ISO to establish priorities and infrastructures related to standards information, sales, marketing and training. The SCC coordinates its assistance to developing countries through the Canadian Advisory Committee on Developing Country Matters (CAC/DEVCO), a 12-member body with representatives from government, economic development agencies, industry, and standard development organizations. CAC/DEVCO was established to coordinate Canadian participation in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Committee on Developing Country Matters (DEVCO). ISO/DEVCO provides the forum for discussion of developing countries needs in standardization and is the ISO vehicle for providing standards-related technical assistance.
