ISO standard on beach safety flags and water safety signs for an accident-free summer

While oceans, lakes and pools often become comfortable havens for those seeking to cool down during scorching temperatures, they can also be hazardous if the waters are unsafe. A new international standard developed through a close collaboration between the International Life Saving Federation and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) improves aquatic safety related to signage. Using as much pictorial information as possible rather than relying on words, the standard, ISO 20712: Water safety signs and beach safety flags—Specifications for water safety signs used in workplaces and public areas, provides a common system for communicating universally and could potentially prevent injuries and fatalities.
