Federal government begins consultations on trade agreement with Central America

2001-01-09

The federal government wants to know what you feel about a proposed free trade agreement with El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. A public consultation is now underway to determine the priorities, objective and concerns of the public, businesses and non-governmental organizations in relation to the proposed agreement. An http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/SSG/bi18545e.html on-line questionnaire is available from Industry Canada, while more information on the negotiations is available from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
The Standards Council of Canada and other members of the National Standards System will be involved in the consultation. The Standards Council already has close ties to the four Central American nations involved, thanks to its involvement in the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT) and the Interamerican Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC).
