Building Better: New ISO standard for safe and durable building, engineering and industrial structures

Engineers, builders and regulators have a new tool for designing safer structures resistant to the material degradation caused by environmental and mechanical stress. A new standard, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), details procedures for the verification of the durability of buildings known to experience a wide range of environmental stress, such as gravity, snow, or earthquakes. ISO 13823: General principles on the design of structures for durability, aims to ensure the reliability of the structure’s performance during its entire service life.
