Consultation regarding proposed amendments to the Hazardous Products (Mattresses) Regulations

Health Canada's Consumer Product Safety Bureau is soliciting comments and information regarding a proposal to mandate open flame ignition testing requirements for mattresses sold, imported or advertised in Canada by incorporating CAN/ULC-S137, Standard Method of Test for Fire Growth of Mattresses (Open Flame Test) into the existing Hazardous Products (Mattresses) Regulations. The standard has been in effect in Canada since July 2007, and current compliance is voluntary. The standard is equivalent to 16 CFR 1633, Standard of the Flammability (Open Flame) of Mattress Sets, a mandatory standard in the United States.
