COPANT 2002: Open Seminar on "Harmonization, Trade and the FTAA: Opportunities and Issues"

2002-04-24

May 16, 2002, 9:00AM - 16:30PM, Delta Chelsea Hotel, Toronto, Ontario

As part of COPANT 2002, hosted by the Standards Council of Canada, an open seminar day will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2002.

COPANT (http://www.copant.org) is the regional standardization body for the Americas and has 27 member countries from Canada all the way to Chile. COPANT members are the standardization bodies for their countries. Standardization bodies co-ordinate standards development and conformity assessment activities in their respective countries. In a number of cases these same bodies perform a regulatory function for their country and act as the national WTO (World Trade Organization) Enquiry point. In the FTAA drafts it has been proposed that COPANT be the prime resource for standardization input and concerns to the FTAA. COPANT members have a great interest in the progress of the FTAA. Speakers from Foreign Affairs, Canadian Council of Americas, the SCC WTO and information division as well as others will cover a range of topics and perspectives on the FTAA and how COPANT can fit and build into the FTAA to serve stakeholders.

We invite you to attend this seminar from 9:00AM- 16:30PM on May 16, 2002 at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto, Ontario. The seminar fee of $150.00 includes lunch, 2 coffee breaks and supporting documents. Officials from the COPANT member bodies, the European Union and international standards bodies will also be in attendance. Space is limited so please get your registration in ASAP.
