Canadians to be Consulted on International OHS Management Standards

Canadians will have a chance to discuss whether or not the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) should begin work on a series of occupational health and safety management system standards, at a forum taking place in Toronto in May.

The forum, organized by the Standards Council of Canada, is intended to develop Canada's position on the matter. Business and industry, labour, government, standards development organizations and insurance groups have been invited to the event, which will take place May 15 and 16 at the Bristol Place Hotel in Toronto. The results of the discussion will be taken to an ISO symposium scheduled for September 5 and 6 in Geneva, Switzerland.

For information on participating, call Hollie Stapleton at (613) 238-3222 (e-mail: [email protected]). The Standards Council of Canada is a federal Crown corporation whose mandate is to foster and promote voluntary standardization for the benefit of industry, consumers and the economy.
