SCC publication offers free information on ISO 9000 and ISO 14000

OTTAWA - For businesses wanting to increase their export potential, the key may well be to adopt quality or environmental management systems, according to the latest issue of CONSENSUS, a newsmagazine devoted to standardization issues.

In its March-April issue, which focuses on ISO 9000 quality management systems and ISO 14000 environmental management systems, the magazine describes how international recognition of ISO management systems has helped companies tap into foreign markets and impress clients at home. Free copies are available from the Standards Council of Canada.

Bombardier Inc. is just one of the companies that have used the ISO 14000 environmental management system (EMS) to get ahead, according to an article entitled "Environmental standards in full bloom."

"With more and more major industries requiring their suppliers, contractors and partners to have some type of EMS, we had no hesitation in adopting this standard because of its flexibility, international recognition and growing acceptance by the industry," says Wayne Banting, an environmental engineer with Bombardier Aerospace (de Havilland).

The issue offers answers to basic questions about ISO 9000 and ISO 14000, as well as sources for more in-depth information, a complete list of accredited registrars, news about the Year 2000 changes to the ISO 9000 series and feedback from companies that have already made the leap.
