Peter Clark Re-appointed Executive Director of Standards Council of Canada

OTTAWA-The Standards Council of Canada (SCC), today announced the extension of Peter D. Clark's appointment, as Executive Director of the SCC for another three year term.

"This provides the SCC with much need continuity in its' leadership and direction," commented Hugh Krentz, Chair of SCC. "Peter has a wealth of experience and business acumen and, given his track record, I am certain that he will continue to make a positive contribution to the future of standardization in Canada."

For many years a prominent politician in Ontario's Ottawa-Carleton region, Peter Clark was first appointed Executive Director of the SCC in April 1999. Mr. Clark served on the Council Board for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for 1999-2000 and as a member of the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) Technical Management Board from September 1999 to December 2001.

A former Chair and CEO of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton (RMOC) for six years, Mr. Clark chaired Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit, and from 1980 to1989 was Mayor of Cumberland, Ontario.  His earlier professional activity includes periods as principal of Peter Clark, Consultants; Vice-President of Accounting and Administration with Perez-Bramalea; and Senior Economist with the Canadian Transport Commission.

Mr. Clark has a long history of voluntary service to the community. He has served as an active member of the Ottawa Hospital Board and the District Health Council and as Chair of the Orleans Health Care Planning Group and of the Hospital Capital Task Force. He has also been a member of the Central Canada Exhibition Association's Board of Directors and the National Board of Operation Go Home.  He is currently Vice-Chair of the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre Foundation.

The Standards Council of Canada is a Crown corporation with the mandate to promote efficient and effective use of voluntary standardization, and is Canada's representative at ISO and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The Standards Council coordinates and oversees the efforts of the National Standards System and offers a variety of standardization-related programs and services.
