Captain Kelly Williams to take the helm at NSS Conference

OTTAWA— The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is pleased to announce that Captain Kelly Williams will deliver the opening keynote address on November 15, 2004, at the upcoming second National Standards System Conference (NSS) to be held at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary, Alberta.

“The seafaring life has long inspired the dreamers and explorers among us to reach for new horizons” commented Peter Clark, Executive Director of the Standards Council.  “As a naval captain and Maritime strategist, Captain Williams' personal success in guiding a group of men and women under difficult circumstances is a testament to the power and potential of great leadership and teamwork.”

While the NSS may not take its members out to sea, it is pursuing a number of challenging objectives that require the energy and vision to go beyond current boundaries.  Canada's standardization community (from standards developers, to testing laboratories and government regulators) will come together in Calgary, at this Conference, to consider its progress towards common goals and to chart a course for the future.

Captain Williams currently serves as Director of Maritime Strategy at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), a position he has held since 2003. He was recently awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his outstanding professionalism, leadership and dedication to duty as Commanding Officer of HMCS WINNIPEG's during the first of two extended operational deployments to the Persian Gulf. For complete details regarding Captain Williams' career achievements, visit the National Defence website.
