Peter Clark Re-appointed Executive Director of Standards Council of Canada

OTTAWA—The Standards Council of Canada (SCC), today announced the re-appointment of Peter D. Clark as Executive Director of the SCC for another three year term.

"I am pleased that the SCC will continue to have the benefit of Mr. Clark's leadership", commented Hugh Krentz, Chairman of SCC. "Mr. Clark's experience in leading the work of the SCC, strong ties with national and international standards organizations and strong advocacy skills have significantly advanced standardization in Canada and abroad.  The SCC Council is highly supportive of this re-appointment." 

Peter Clark was first appointed Executive Director of the SCC in April, 1999. During this period, Mr. Clark has contributed significantly to the international work of the SCC and has served on a number of important international and regional committees.  He is currently a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Council Board, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Management Board and a member of the Board of Directors of the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT).

A former Chair and CEO of the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton (RMOC) for six years, Mr. Clark chaired Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit, and from 1980 to1989 was Mayor of Cumberland, Ontario.  His earlier professional activity includes periods as principal of Peter Clark, Consultants; Vice-President of Accounting and Administration with Perez-Bramalea; and Senior Economist with the Canadian Transport Commission.

Mr. Clark has a long history of voluntary service to the community. He has served as an active member of the Ottawa Hospital Board and the District Health Council and as Chair of the Orleans Health Care Planning Group and of the Hospital Capital Task Force. He has also been a member of the Central Canada Exhibition Association's Board of Directors and the National Board of Operation Go Home.  He is currently Chair of the Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre Foundation.

The Standards Council of Canada is a Crown corporation with the mandate to promote efficient and effective use of voluntary standardization. It is Canada's representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The SCC also coordinates and oversees the efforts of the National Standards System and offers a variety of standardization-related programs and services.
