FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 2006-12-06

SCC withdrawal of automotive sector qualification programs: QS 9000 and TE 9000

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) recently announced that it will no longer offer automotive (QS 9000) and tooling and equipment supplement (TE 9000) sector qualification programs. The decision follows an industry–wide move away from the application of QS and TE 9000 to the use of ISO/TS 16949 Quality management systems -- Particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2000 for automotive production and relevant service part organizations, in the automotive sector

Effective December 15, 2006, certificates issued by SCC-accredited certification bodies to either QS 9000 or TE 9000 will no longer be recognized.  Organizations certified to either of these applications should have transferred their certification to ISO/TS 16949:2002 or ISO 9001:2000. Affected organizations are asked to contact their certification/registration bodes for further information.

QS 9000 is one of several sector-specific applications of ISO 9000 and applies to organizations that supply parts and services to the automotive industry.

TE 9000 refers to a supplement of QS 9000 and provides specific requirements for tooling and equipment suppliers.
