FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 2007-12-17

SCC withdrawal of aerospace sector qualification program

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) recently announced that it will no longer offer accreditation for sector qualification under the aerospace quality management systems program (AS 9000/9001).

AS 9000/9001 is one of several sector-specific applications of ISO 9000, and applies to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) supplying products to aerospace manufacturers. Accreditation for this sector scheme continues to be offered by several accreditors around the world.

The Standards Council of Canada is a federal Crown corporation with the mandate to promote efficient and effective standardization in Canada with the goal of enhancing Canada’s economic competitiveness and social well-being. SCC is Canada’s representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is responsible for coordinating Canadian participation in the development of international standards. It also accredits standards development and conformity assessment organizations.
