SCC Welcomes New Executive Director, Mr. John Walter

The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) welcomes John Walter as its new Executive Director.

Mr. Walter brings to SCC extensive knowledge and experience in standards development and governance, along with strong executive experience.

Prior to his appointment by the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for SCC, Mr. Walter was Vice President, Standards Development for the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Previously, Mr. Walter spent five years as the President and CEO of the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA), a non-government, not-for-profit organization mandated to deliver public safety services for the Province of Ontario.

From 1991 to 1996, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister, Technical Standards Division for the Province of Ontario's Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations, where he was responsible for the administration and regulatory compliance for seven public safety acts.

“I am excited to join SCC and help guide its work into the next decade,” said Walter. “I look forward to working to ensure that Canadians’ best interests are served by Canada’s National Standards System.”
