Reporting period: 27 Sept., 2008 - 24 March, 2009.
The Registration Authority for ISO/IEC 10036 received an inquiry an anticipated registrant on the registration of coats of arms and anthems of schools. The RA considers the registration of symbols of this kind as one of the enhanced uses of the registration process (including attachment information of audio/video) that are specified in the ISO/IEC 10036. The RA will accept registration once request is duly made.
Currently, the glyph database is out of service because the current database system is incapable of dealing with the server overload that occasionally takes place. The overload is apparantly caused by massive automatic queries by agents like web crawlers. The current interface is prone to this kind of exploitation and needs a technical improvement. The Registration Authority is considering to change to a server which is under the control of the members of the steering committee, and therefore will be less affected by extra load of the server. The new server will be available during calendar year 2009. The change will not affect the URI of the registration service.
