ISO/IEC 9541-1, -2 and -3 have the following Amendments and Corrigenda:
For the users of those standards, the publication of their 2nd editions including the Amds and Cors should be recommended. In the 1st editions, interchange formats are defined by using the syntaxes of SGML and ASN.1. In the 2nd editions, however, they should be defined by the RELAX NG (ISO/IEC 19757-2).
NOTE: At the publication of ISO/IEC 9541-1/Amd.4, ISO/CO suggested developing the 2nd edition including all the amendments and Corrigenda. The editor and ISO/CO discussed the following issues:
- ISO/CO (2008-12-10):
...... Given the mistake in Amd.3 and the number of Amendments and Corrigenda already published, I believe that a new edition would be best for the users of ISO/IEC 9541-1, rather than an Amd.4. Do you agree?
- Editor (2008-12-10):
Thank you for your interest in ISO/IEC 9541. You are correct in principle.
I believe, however, the new edition has to change the syntax from SGML to XML in accordance with the strong requirements of ISO/IEC 9541 users.
After the publications of
- ISO/IEC 9541-1/Amd.4
- ISO/IEC 9541-2/Amd.2 and
- ISO/IEC 9541-3/Amd.2,
I and some fonts experts are planning to draft new editions of ISO/IEC 9541-1, -2 and -3.Therefore I wish to publish the amendments as soon as possible. After the publication I will propose an SC34 project to develop the new editions of ISO/IEC 9541-1, -2 and -3, which include the syntax of XML rather than SGML and ASN.1.
