The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is a federal Crown corporation with the mandate to promote efficient and effective standardization in Canada. Located in Ottawa, SCC has a Governing Council comprised of up to 15 members and a staff of approximately 85. The organization reports to Parliament through the Minister of Industry and oversees Canada's national standardization network.

SCC carries out a variety of functions intended to ensure the effective and coordinated operation of standardization in Canada. It also represents Canada's interests on standards-related matters in foreign and international forums.

Summary of duties

The Administrative Assistant supports and delivers a full range of administrative services that enable the Finance & Corporate Management Branch to function effectively and efficiently. This position provides direct administrative support to the V-P, Finance and plays a pivotal role in supporting the entire Branch administratively by providing enhanced customer service to employees, stakeholders and clients.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • A secondary school diploma coupled with acceptable experience and/or training; a university degree in administration would be an asset
  • Significant experience in providing administrative support services to a multi-disciplinary work group, in a demanding environment
  • Significant experience in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and the Internet
  • Experience with correspondence administration, including composing and proofreading correspondence and correcting, editing reports
  • Experience with general administrative and office support duties, including scheduling meetings, travel arrangements, completion of expense claims, etc.
  • Bilingualism

Asset Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field

  • Thorough knowledge of office administration procedures and administrative practices.

  • Excellent Interpersonal and relationship-building skills
