Remembering Former ISO President, Roy Phillips

Sadly, former president of the International Organization for Standardization, (ISO), Roy A. Phillips, passed away January 5, 2012, at age 93.

Mr. Phillips was elected the first Canadian president of the ISO in 1988. He served in that position until 1991, traveling the world and forging new directions in international trade and policy. In 2002, the Standards Council of Canada commemorated Mr. Phillips’ achievement by naming an award in his honour.

His distinguished career in engineering and business spanned five decades, including 25 years at General Electric. In 1975, Mr. Phillips became president of the Canadian Manufacturers Association, a position he held for 10 years. Also that year, he served as president of the Rotary Club of Toronto. Mr. Phillips received the Order of Canada in 1986 and the Paul Harris Fellowship in 1989. He was predeceased by his wife and survived by his four children.
