Summary of major points:

The first meeting of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC34 in 1998 will be held at the Indian Lakes Resort, 250 W. Schick Road, Bloomingdale, IL 60108, in the suburbs of Chicago.

This meeting will be before the GCA conferences "XML '98" and "Markup Technologies '98" in nearby Chicago (http://www.gca.org/conf/xmlchi98/xmlindex.htm and http://www.gca.org/conf/mt98/mtindex.htm. Hotel space for the conference is running short; if you intend to stay for the conference, please make reservations soon.

Hotel and travel information is enclosed. Please make hotel reservations as soon as possible since the meeting date is getting close.

Since this is the organizational meeting for SC34, we shall be spending more time on SC matters than we did as a WG. Nonetheless we expect there to be some technical sessions during the meeting.

The W3C's XSL committee and the U.S. NCITS V1 committee that is the U.S. TAG to SC34 will also be meeting at the same location.

Documents for this meeting should be sent to the Convenor in electronic (i.e., SGML/XML/HTML) form at least two weeks before the meeting so they can be posted on the SC34 Web Site.
