Medical Laboratory Accreditation
In partnership with the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA), the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) offers a national accreditation program for medical laboratories operating in Canada.
Under this program, laboratories are recognized by the BNQ and OMA and are accredited by SCC without having to undergo separate assessments by each organization.
As part of their assessments the technical competency and quality processes of each laboratory is evaluated. Only those laboratories that meet the requirements of CAN-P 11B (ISO 15189), will receive accreditation.
Accreditation underscores that a laboratory meets and demonstrates a commitment to total reliability in producing dependable and impartial results. This can limit the need for government oversight of laboratories, and provide an advantage when submitting tenders to contractors who require independently verified laboratory test results.
